There were many animals that lived in Pacific Northwest region . Many of them were used by Native American tribes. Some were not killed and would roam freely in the forest. Small birds, small rabbits etc, would get to do these things, but eventually they would get killed by an animal bigger then them except for the little opossums. The opossums can pretend that they are dead so that they are not harmed by any animals, except the ones that like to eat the dead animals that they find. Besides that the opossums thought that they were one of the best animals in the forest. One day the little opossum wanted to have have proof of his and others leadership. The opossum would prove hisleader ship by taking some of the Indian's crops. The other opossums liked the idea so they joined in. So the opossums would follow the little opossum to the Indian's crops. When they came cross an Indian they would play dead so the Indians would not harm them. Unfortuantely many opossums were caught and taken away. All that was left was the little opossume. When he got to the crops he could not pull them out from the ground. So he dug down to the end of the crop. He tuged and tuged so hard tha the end of the plant became little strips that were connected to the crop. The little opossume spent his days trying to get the crops from the Indians and making those little strips of the crop spring out and that's why there are roots on your plants.
